Ali Fenwick is our new intern at photofoundation, here she tells us a bit about herself and why she is excited to be on board with the photofoundation team!

About me:

Hey guys! So I'm Ali and I'm a student from Buckinghamshire currently studying a BA honours in Photography at Nottingham Trent University. For me my life has evolved around photography. From a very early age I grew up on Kodak disposable cameras untill I started playing with the big toys later on in college and went on to university buying myself a Canon 7D (DSLR).

How to... make the most of the weather!

Photography would be non-existent without light. It’s what gives photos their texture, contrast, shape and even form. So thinking about light is just as important as any of the other technicalities like aperture, shutter speed or ISO.

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself!
A post graduate in commerce with 13 yrs of work experience, currently working with United Health Group as Sr.IT Project Manager - I am also a certified Six Sigma Blackbelt. I stay at Hyderabad with my parents & married to Purnima who is a Business Analyst (PMP Certified) with Converges. My son is 3 yrs. 4 months old and goes to LKG. My colleagues at office are more like family to me & love to work with them.

I've just finished a PhD at Durham University in particle physics, more specifically on how the Large Hadron Collider at CERN can test new theories of fundamental particles and their interactions. I'll shortly be starting a postdoctoral position at Annecy, France, doing more of the same.

Photofoundation Interview series: Tom Price

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself!
I work as a freelance documentary storyteller and I use photography, film and writing to do that. I studied languages and transnationalism and I absolutely love Latin America. I'm married to Sarah, a doctor and we're moving from the West Country to London next month. I probably read more than I take pictures. I think the internet is a wonderful thing, but I need regular breaks from it to think and breathe.

Does image manipulation have a place in photojournalism?

Truth is a thorny issue in photography. How closely should a photograph match reality? News photography in particular has a duty to authenticity. But there is also pressure to make a good-looking image. In the case of photojournalism, are image processing or manipulation ever justified?

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself!

I am from Romania, and my two passions are photography and music. I enjoy playing the guitar or listening to some old vinyl records, sometimes I do both. Also, I would't mind wandering with a camera in my hand for a good few hours around the city.. Currently I am studying Media and Cultural Studies at University of the Arts London, and I enjoy London life and my new home.
